Why should I use semiconductor strain gauge load cells as opposed to foil gauge units?

Check out our in-depth article comparing semiconductor strain gauges to foil gauges for a detailed explanation of the benefits a semiconductor gauge provides.

What is the minimum wrap angle?

Depends on the weight of the idler roll, direction of force, and range of tension for the application. Contact Montalvo to discuss your specific application to determine minimum wrap angle.

Can I use these in “Hazardous Areas”?

Yes, when used with barrier blocks.

Can these be washed down?

LCR’s are IP54 rated so can be washed down, but not water proof.

Can they be used in “Clean Room Environments”?

Yes.

Are these drop in replacements for “Brand X”?

Possibly, it depends on the brand x model. There may be some differences in connectors, load rating, and dimensions. A Montalvo Applications Specialist can discuss your current application to determine any differences.

Will these work with “Brand X” Controllers/Amplifiers?

As long as the excitation voltage is 0-5vdc.

Are these load cells intrinsically safe?

Only when used with barrier blocks.

What excitation voltage do these load cells use?

5vdc.

What is the minimum tension I can measure?

Depends on the application, wrap angle, direction of resultant force, weight of the idler roll, etc. Contact a Montalvo Applications Specialist to discuss your specific application.

What is the maximum tension I can measure?

Depends on the application, wrap angle, direction of resultant force, weight of the idler roll, etc. Contact a Montalvo Applications Specialist to discuss your specific application.

What roller finishes are available?

Available finishes include hardcoat anodized, electroless nickel, rubber, chrome plating, & high release tungsten carbide. Carbon Fiber and Stainless Steel Rollers are also available.

How do I calibrate my LCR-Series Load Cell?

Depends on the amplifier/controller that it’s being used with. Please refer the amplifier or controllers calibration instructions.

How do I test resistance?

If the load cells have a 6 pin connector, measure the resistance between pin a, and pin b, and then pin a and pin c . The result should be about 115ohms. If the load cell has a 4 pin connector, measure the resistance between pin 1 and 2, and 4 and 2. Again, the result should be about 115 ohms.

How do I invert the load cell signal?

Reverse the black, and red/brown leads for each load cell.

How do I test operation?

Follow the calibration instructions for the amplifier/controller.

How sensitive are these load cells?

 250mV at full load.

How do I change my load cell connector from 6 pin to 4 pin?

We advise that you Contact Us to go over the details of how to rewire your connector to 4 pin from 6 pin to ensure proper connections.
